Crime Stoppers History:
Crime Stoppers began in Albuquerque, New Mexico in September of 1976. Members of the local community, in partnership with the media and law enforcement, began an effort to provide crime-solving assistance to law enforcement. A cash reward was offered to anonymous persons who telephone the Crime Stoppers hot line with information which led to the arrest and indictment of the person (s) responsible for felony offenses. The Crime Stoppers program has enjoyed great success boasting an average conviction rate of 95% on cases solved by Crime Stoppers’ tips. The Crime Stoppers programs worldwide have solved over a half a million crimes and recovered over 3 billion dollars worth of stolen property and narcotics. CSI Statistics
Today, there are over 1,000 Crime Stoppers programs in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Bahamas, British West Indies, Micronesia, and other nations.
Northwest Arkansas Crime Stoppers:
The Northwest Arkansas Crime Stoppers began on July 29th, 1999 under the leadership of Chief Mikel Blocker of the Springdale Police Department. Chief Blocker along with Officer Del Atkinson of the Springdale Police Department and Officer Shannon Gabbard of the Fayetteville Police Department embarked on the creation and set up of the NWACS. KFSM-TV5 was instrumental in the program as well, since they already had an open line of communications with the Fort Smith Police Departments Crime Stoppers Program. Over the past year the Crime Stoppers program has help solved numerous crimes throughout the Northwest Arkansas Area.

What happens?
Each week a “Crime of the Week” is highlighted in local newspapers, on KFSM TV-5, and this web site. People with information about the crime of the week (or any other major crime), wanted fugitives, or narcotics violations are asked to call Crime Stoppers toll free (1-877-842-8200 and provide the information.
Anonymous?
You never have to give your name or your phone number. You remain anonymous throughout the entire process.
The information is passed on to the appropriate law enforcement agency and investigated. If the tip leads to an arrest or the filing of charges, the tipster is eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
Who pays for Crime Stoppers?
Crime Stoppers of Northwest Arkansas is a tax exempt, nonprofit corporation and all donations are tax deductible. None of your tax dollars are being used. Crime Stoppers of Northwest Arkansas is funded entirely from individual citizens, corporations, service clubs and business donations. If you would like to help with a contribution it would be greatly appreciated.
Everyone in the area can contribute by calling with information that will clear crimes and lead to the arrest of wanted persons, and by donating their time, goods, services and financial contributions.
Who Profits? Everyone, except the criminal
